IT TAKES A VILLAGE

In 2023, I began "Celebrating Love," a photography project focused on documenting love within the Black community. As the project evolved, I recognized a broader narrative emerging – one that spoke to the power of community in all its forms. "It Takes A Village" emerged from this evolution, drawing its name from the African proverb "it takes a village to raise a child."

Through intimate documentary photography, I capture how communities create spaces of belonging and resistance. From urban gardens to book clubs, skating groups to activist circles, each image archives how people, particularly from marginalized communities, build villages within our cities.

This ongoing documentation spans London, with plans to extend into France and beyond, creating both an archive of contemporary community-building and a resource for future collective action. In an era where isolation often feels inevitable, these photographs stand as testament to the radical act of coming together.
