BLACK ROOTZ

My journey with "It Takes A Village" found its turning point at Wolves Lane Centre in Wood Green, home to Black Rootz. During their Health is Wealth day celebration for Black History Month, I witnessed a community that embodies everything this project seeks to document.

Black Rootz doesn't just grow vegetables – they cultivate community. In their garden, food sovereignty intertwines with social connection, creating a space where nourishment extends beyond the physical. Their work demonstrates how community spaces serve multiple purposes: as sites of resistance, education, and collective joy.

This visit marked a pivotal moment in reimagining my project. Watching people share stories, knowledge, and food, I saw clearly how love manifests in community care. Black Rootz shows us that when we tend to both the soil and our relationships, remarkable growth becomes possible.
