Can a Brother Get Some Peace? — A Film & Photography Exhibition
Can a Brother Get Some Peace? is a film and photography exhibition by Audrey Albert, commissioned by Deptford X Festival. This powerful body of work brings together Audrey’s short film and a new series of photographic portraits, expanding the film’s themes into real-world reflections of Black masculinity, identity, and peace.
The portraits feature a diversity of Black men—mainly from South London—captured in quiet, reflective moments. Together, the film and imagery challenge limiting narratives and open space for fuller, more human representations. What may feel like fiction to some is the lived reality of others.
While grounded in South London, this project is deeply informed by Audrey’s upbringing in the suburbs of Paris, where state and police violence are a daily reality. The exhibition is not only a creative exploration but also a reclamation of narrative—moving beyond traditional media portrayals to something more grounded, more honest.
This work also reflects Audrey’s versatility as a creative, photographer, filmmaker, producer, and creative director, and her ongoing commitment to telling stories rooted in community and truth.
