Representation is Everything is about showing a fuller picture of Black people—beyond the usual images we always see, like footballers, rappers, or singers. We’re so much more than that. I started this series to highlight those other stories, the ones that don’t get enough attention. Stories that shape how we see ourselves and how the world sees us.

Jasmin is one of those stories.

She’s the founder of Deco22, where she makes beautiful leather accessories by hand. Seeing a Black woman in this kind of craft—especially working with leather—is rare. That’s what drew me in. Her work, her presence, her passion.

When we spoke, it was artist to artist. One of those conversations that just flows and stays with you. We talked about what it’s like choosing a creative path as a Black person, how hard it can be when art isn’t really seen as a “real” career in our communities or even outside of them. But Jasmin is doing it anyway. Carving out space in a field that wasn’t made with her in mind.

What she’s doing isn’t just about fashion or craft. It’s about breaking the mold. It’s about being visible in places where we’re usually left out.

Because in the end, representation really is everything.
